Cardio Circuit

You are worried that you will not stay in shape during the off season.

Even if you are not swinging a club, there are many ways to keep your essential swinging muscles toned and limber.

Yoga is often greatly overlooked when it comes to golf fitness; yet it can add plenty of yardage because of your increased ability to turn your hips and shoulders. Cardio Circuit is great for quick full body workout when you have a limited amount of time to exercise. Try combining three intense aerobic exercises by spending at least 3 minutes doing each of them. Good cardio circuit exercises are jump ropes, jumping jacks, squat thrusts, Hindu Squats, boxing, jumping sideways over a small pillow, or combining a squat with an alternating kick as you return to a stand. The overall goal is to keep your heart rate up for 20 minutes so you will have the benefits of a full workout. You do not need to do an intense exercise for this entire duration. Between the circuit exercises you can walk around the house to help catch your breath until you heart rate starts to slow down. This is when you need to do your next circuit to help keep your heart rate up. You can do aerobics for 5 minutes and then do Pilates while your heart is still beating fast. Once your heart rate drops, use this as a sign to do a couple of minutes more of intense aerobic exercise. Alternating through different speeds of walking is a great way to keep your heart rate up for 20 minutes. You could walk, jog, sprint, then slow down again to a jog, and walk.

I found that Yoga (Ashtanga flow for me) contributed greatly to my flexibility, core strength, and balance.
